Launch is a sculpture in the form of an arch. It considers the immense energy required for elevation or take off, when a bird, for example, uplifts into the air from a stationary position.
Launch follows on from a series of sculpture called Fledge; Increments of Flight that were exhibited at Salisbury cathedral in 2010 as part of an exhibition called Liminality. The represent a journey from one place of understanding to another, in stages of a bird’s flight.
Launch has a steel skeleton, a fiberglass body and a glass mirror skin. The glass will appear as many tiny facets, reflecting the light, constantly changing as a viewer mover around the piece, and responding to changes in light.
